Thoughts for Today

“Ninety-nine percent of failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses” (George Washingtong Carver)

“Courage and perseverance have a magical talisman, before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish into thin air” (John Quincy Adams)

“When you like someone, you like them in spite of their faults. When you love someone, you love them with their faults” (Elizabeth Cameron)

“Those who think it is permissible to tell white lies soon go color-blind” (Austin O’Malley)

Creative Income

The challenge and competition for funding continues to grow more intense every year. Even with the increased Federal restrictions, the number of non-profit organizations continues to proliferate. It is inspiring to see how many organizations are getting creative in their partnerships and their fundraising strategies.

Partnerships are a great way to generate income for the charity and visibility for the corporate sponsor. Reciprocal web links, creative marketing and cross-promotions create powerful tools for business and philanthropy. As a result corporate partners are looking much more carefully at their charitable works so that both organizations can get the most bang for their buck. For example, a senior center might recruit a medical supply company to serve as corporate sponsor of their dining hall and patrons of the facility might get a discount when they visit the medical supplier.

One of my favorite programs involves a travel company that books tours through their non-profit partner. For every booking they receive, the non-profit receives a donation to their work. Some really creative groups are planning group travel for their clients as a means of keeping their community connected and raising income at the same time. I know a national sportsman’s association that brought over 250 people together on a cruise that raised a significant amount of donation dollars. It also allowed them to interact with their members during the event while selling memorabilia and apparel.

We want to hear what creative initiatives are working for you. During October and November we will be giving a way a free set of Fundraising Videos valued at over $250. The organization with the most creative idea will receive the video series.
